Professionals who apply for registration in the Brazilian Register of Osteopaths must be committed to the Code of Ethics of Osteopaths in Brazil, and must submit:
- Osteopathy D.O. diploma from a Brazilian school meeting the academic criteria of the Brazilian Register of Osteopaths (thesis defense approved by an international jury composed of osteopaths D.O. registered as professionals in the country of their education),
or
- Osteopathy D.O. diploma issued by an accredited institution of a country where Osteopathy is officially registered; the exams to obtain the degree must meet the academic criteria of the Brazilian Register of Osteopaths (thesis defense approved by an international jury composed of osteopaths D.O. registered as professionals in the country of their education),
or
- Osteopathy D.O. diploma issued by accredited educational institution of a country where Osteopathy is not registered, provided the existence of equivalence or reciprocity agreements between the Brazilian Register of Osteopaths and the correspondent Register in the country where the studies were carried out.
A committee will decide about other cases.
An accredited institution is the one:
- that offers full training in Osteopathy according to the European model or osteopathic training with minimal 1.500h (theory / practice / clinical training), for five years after college;
- whose academic director is a Osteopath D.O., member of the Register of the country where his title has been issued;
- whose teachers of specific osteopathic disciplines are enrolled in the Registro Brasileiro dos Osteopatas (Brazilian Register of Osteopaths) or in the equivalent institution in the country where his title has been issued.
